Educational Gaps; Or, Why Your Homeschooled Child Can't Do Jumping Jacks

I bet you thought this was going to be a post about the things your child is missing because he's home-educated, and how he will be just fine without those things because he knows how to learn things and find answers.

This is about some serious educational gaps that your children may probably have; and how you won't know about it until it is too late.

Yes, one day soon you will find yourself at the first soccer practice and your son will be the only one who doesn't know how to do jumping jacks. (my son looked like a marionette getting electrocuted)

Or you will find yourself taking part in a Post Office tour, and none of the homeschooled kids will have any idea how to sit together in a group for a photo. (spread out for yards, standing down in front)

Keep a smile on! It's better to laugh and do secret training than to worry about it.

I'm so pleased you are reading Higher Education!

  1. I have had this same things happen. My little guy had no idea how to do jumping jacks either on his first day of soccer. I took a little time the next day to show the kids the finer points on some of these basic exercises and stretches. I had never even thought about teaching those things but they now can do them just like all the other kids.
